Substack isn't just newsletters — many writers also publish exclusive podcasts and audio posts for subscribers. You've paid or signed up, and you want to listen offline during your commute — but the Substack app doesn't have a convenient download feature.
This guide shows how to download audio from Substack newsletters you already subscribed to as MP3 files for offline listening.
Substack Audio — You Already Have Access
When you subscribe to a Substack (whether free or paid), you have access to the newsletter's audio content per the author's terms. Downloading for offline personal use is a valid use of content you subscribed to — similar to downloading an ebook you bought to read offline.
Important: Only download content you subscribed to. Don't share files with others if the content is behind a paid subscription.
How to Download Substack Podcasts You Subscribed To
Option 1 — Use Your Personal RSS Feed
Every Substack provides a personal RSS feed for subscribers — including audio content. This is the cleanest method:
- Sign in to Substack → open the newsletter you subscribe to
- Go to the newsletter's Settings → find the Podcast RSS section
- Copy your personal RSS link (this link contains your authentication token)
- Paste it into a podcast app like Pocket Casts, Overcast, or AntennaPod → download episodes
