Vimeo On Demand is a marketplace where filmmakers sell directly to viewers — indie films, documentaries, short films, series. Prices range from $1–20 per title. Unlike Netflix or Disney+, each filmmaker sets their own pricing and distribution terms.
Download Rights After Purchase
Vimeo On Demand has two modes filmmakers can set:
- Stream-only: You can only watch online via browser or the Vimeo app — no download button
- Download enabled: Filmmaker has turned on downloads — you'll see a "Download" button on the video page and can save an MP4 to your device
If the filmmaker hasn't enabled downloads, you can't download even after paying — this is the filmmaker's choice, not Vimeo's restriction.
Checking Whether Your Purchase Has Download Rights
Log in to Vimeo → go to My Purchases → open the video → if you see a Download button, the filmmaker has enabled it — download normally. No button means stream-only.
For Vimeo Videos Without Download Enabled
Some Vimeo videos — including some On Demand purchases — are hosted without heavy DRM. Try pasting the video link into klypio.com/app to see if it can be downloaded. Klypio supports Vimeo — but videos with Widevine DRM cannot be downloaded by any web tool.
What to Do If You Want Offline Access
If the filmmaker hasn't enabled downloads but you want offline viewing — contact the filmmaker directly through their Vimeo page. Many indie filmmakers are happy to provide a file to buyers, especially smaller productions. It's respectful and often more effective than any technical approach.
