You find a great Short — a quick tutorial, a highlight, a clip you want to save — copy the link, paste it into your usual download tool, and get an error. Or nothing happens. Or you get the wrong video.
The issue is the URL format. YouTube Shorts use youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID instead of the standard youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID. Many older or poorly-maintained download tools don't handle the /shorts/ path. Here's what works.
The URL Difference That Breaks Most Downloaders
Standard YouTube video URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
YouTube Shorts URL:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dQw4w9WgXcQ
The video ID is the same — only the path format differs. Tools that parse the URL literally and only look for watch?v= will reject the Shorts URL.
Quick fix if your current tool fails: Replace /shorts/VIDEO_ID with /watch?v=VIDEO_ID in the URL and try again. Many tools accept the watch?v= format even for Shorts content.

- Open Telegram → start a chat with
@KlypioBot - Paste the Shorts link → send it
- The bot recognizes the Shorts URL and returns the MP4 in seconds
- Long-press the file → Save to device
Klypio handles both /shorts/ and /watch?v= URLs — no need to manually rewrite the link.
Browser on mobile
- Copy the Shorts link from the YouTube app
- Open your mobile browser → go to klypio.com/youtube-video-downloader
- Paste the link → select Video → download
How to Download YouTube Shorts on Desktop
- Open YouTube in Chrome → navigate to the Short
- If you have the Klypio Chrome Extension installed: click the Download button that appears on the Shorts player
- Without the extension: copy the URL from the address bar → go to klypio.com/youtube-video-downloader → paste → download
Quality note: YouTube Shorts are uploaded in vertical format (9:16), max 1080p. When you download, you get a 1080×1920 vertical MP4 — ready to upload directly to Reels or TikTok without cropping.
Can You Download YouTube Shorts as MP3?
Yes — same workflow as extracting audio from any YouTube video:
- Copy the Shorts link
- Send it to
@KlypioBoton Telegram - When the bot asks Video or Audio — select Audio (MP3)
- Receive the MP3 file
Or via web tool: paste the Shorts link → select MP3 instead of MP4.
Shorts are under 60 seconds, so the MP3 is tiny — useful as a sound clip, short background audio, or saving the audio from a quick tutorial. For longer-form YouTube audio at higher quality, see the YouTube to MP3 quality guide.
What If the Short Was Deleted or Set to Private?
If the creator deleted the Short or set it to private, YouTube removes the file from their servers. No tool can retrieve content that no longer exists — this is a YouTube limitation, not a downloader limitation. Act fast if you see something worth saving.
