How to Export Your Spotify Saved Tracks for Offline Use

Guide to exporting Spotify saved tracks from your own account for offline access. Personal use only — no redistribution. Includes playlist migration alternatives.

Spotify Premium allows offline listening within the app — but downloaded files are encrypted and cannot be used outside of Spotify. If you want to export your saved music to files you can keep long-term, here's what you need to know.

Important: Every method below is only ethically valid for music you've saved in your own account and strictly for personal use. Do not share downloaded files — that's copyright infringement.

Why Spotify Offline Files Can't Be Used Outside the App

When you download music for offline playback via Spotify Premium, files are stored in an encrypted DRM format — only the Spotify app can read them. There's no legitimate built-in way to extract Spotify files to MP3.

The only practical workaround is recording the audio output from your computer — similar to the Apple Music approach.

How to Export Your Saved Spotify Music — Practical Methods

Loopback recording software

  1. Install Audacity or similar recording software
  2. Configure it to record from "loopback" (audio currently playing through your computer)
  3. Open Spotify, play the track you want to save
  4. Audacity records it → export as MP3

This is slow since you must listen in real time. Works for small collections — not practical for a 500-track playlist.

Migrate your playlist to another platform (no file loss)

Rather than exporting files, the smarter option is moving your playlist:

  • SongShift (iOS/Android): Transfer Liked Songs and playlists to YouTube Music, Apple Music, Tidal
  • Tune My Music (web): Similar tool, supports more platforms
  • Exportify (web): Export track list to CSV — at minimum preserves song titles and artists

This is faster and doesn't infringe copyright because you're transferring listening rights, not copying files.

Save Your Track List Before Canceling Spotify

If you're about to cancel Spotify, at minimum save your list:

  1. Go to Exportify.net → log in with Spotify → export Liked Songs to CSV
  2. The CSV contains track names, artists, albums — enough to find them on YouTube or elsewhere
  3. Transfer playlists to YouTube Music for free using SongShift
