How to Use AI to Translate Videos Into Multiple Languages 2026

Step-by-step guide to using AI for video translation — generating transcripts, translating subtitles, creating AI voiceovers, and what to review before publishing.

You have a Vietnamese TikTok video that is performing well and want to reach an international audience — but you don't have the budget for professional translation. Or you found a great English tutorial and want to create a Vietnamese version for your audience. AI translation can help — but it is not perfect.

Key reminder: AI output is a draft — you still need to review it. AI translations can miss context, produce unnatural phrasing, or mismatch your content's tone. Always review carefully before publishing.

Step 1 — Generate the source transcript

Before translating, you need an accurate transcript of the original video:

  • Whisper (OpenAI): Currently the strongest transcription tool for Vietnamese, free if run locally or via API
  • YouTube auto-captions: If the video is already on YouTube, download the .srt file from YouTube Studio
  • AssemblyAI / Deepgram: Transcription APIs with Vietnamese language support

Step 2 — Translate the transcript with AI

Once you have a .srt or plain text transcript:

  • DeepL: Better quality for longer text than Google Translate for EN↔VI pairs
  • ChatGPT / Claude: Prompt "Translate the following subtitles to English, preserve timestamps, keep the tone natural and informal" — AI will maintain the .srt structure
  • Google Translate API: Good for automating a translation pipeline at scale

Step 3 — Generate voiceover (optional)

If you want a voiceover rather than just subtitles:

  • ElevenLabs: Best-quality AI voiceover in English or Vietnamese from a translated script
  • HeyGen: Automatically translates and lip-syncs the video (replaces the original voice)
  • Murf.ai: Multi-language text-to-speech, suitable for explainer videos

Step 4 — Add subtitles or voiceover to your video

  • Use CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or Premiere Pro to import the translated .srt
  • If using AI voiceover: adjust video speed or voiceover timing to match
  • Export and upload to the target platform

What to review carefully

  • Are industry-specific terms translated correctly?
  • Does the tone match (formal vs. informal)?
  • Are any phrases unnatural or awkward?
  • Do subtitle timestamps align with the audio?
