Tips for Twitch downloads
Clips vs. VODs vs. live streams — key differences
Twitch Clips are short 60-second highlights created by viewers or the streamer. VODs are full recorded streams saved on Twitch. Live streams cannot be downloaded while broadcasting — only after the broadcast ends and is archived as a VOD.
How to copy a Twitch clip URL
Open the clip on twitch.tv and copy the URL from your browser address bar. Clip URLs look like clips.twitch.tv/ClipName or twitch.tv/channelname/clip/ClipName. Both formats work with Klypio.
VOD timestamp segments
Twitch VOD URLs can include a timestamp (e.g., ?t=1h23m). Klypio downloads the full VOD regardless of timestamp. To get a specific segment, use the timestamp for reference and trim locally after download.
Subscriber-only content and restricted VODs
Some VODs are set to subscriber-only by the streamer. These require Twitch login credentials to access, which Klypio does not use. Only publicly available VODs and clips are supported.
Highlights vs. full stream VODs
Highlights are edited segments a streamer creates from their VOD. They stay on Twitch indefinitely. Full stream VODs expire after 14–60 days depending on the channel's status. Download soon after a stream ends to avoid expiry.
Twitch URL formats Klypio recognizes
Supported URL patterns: clips.twitch.tv/[ClipSlug], twitch.tv/[channel]/clip/[ClipSlug], and twitch.tv/videos/[VODid]. All three are auto-detected — just paste whichever you have.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download a Twitch stream while it's live?▼
No. Live streams cannot be captured in real time. Once the broadcast ends and Twitch archives it as a VOD, you can paste the VOD URL and download it.
Can I download Twitch clips?▼
Yes. Paste the clip URL (clips.twitch.tv/… or twitch.tv/channel/clip/…) and Klypio downloads it as an MP4 in the highest quality available.
Is there a length limit for VOD downloads?▼
No hard length limit. Long VODs (8+ hours) take longer to process. The file may be large — ensure you have sufficient storage space before downloading.
Can I download subscriber-only VODs?▼
No. Sub-only VODs require Twitch authentication. Klypio only accesses publicly available content without login credentials.
Does Klypio work on mobile for Twitch clips?▼
Yes. The web tool at klypio.com works in any mobile browser. Copy the clip URL from the Twitch app or mobile browser and paste it into Klypio.
What quality options are available for Twitch content?▼
Up to 1080p60 for clips and VODs that were streamed in that quality. Available options depend on the original stream settings.
Can I extract just the audio from a Twitch VOD or clip?▼
Yes. Select the MP3 option when quality choices appear. Useful for saving music streams, podcasts, or commentary without the video.
How many Twitch clips can I download per day for free?▼
Free users get 50 downloads per day across all platforms combined. Pro users get 500/day with priority queue.
