You're scrolling TikTok and hear a great background track — but the creator is talking over it the entire time. You want the music, not the speech. This is a common need for content creators, small business owners making Reels, or anyone who wants to reuse audio cleanly.
Here's what's actually possible and how to do it.
How TikTok Stores Audio — What You're Working With
First, an important technical point: when a creator posts a TikTok, all audio — background music, voice, sound effects — is mixed into a single audio track. TikTok does not store "background music" and "voiceover" as separate files in the video itself.
This means downloading the video and playing it will always include both. There is no "extract background only" button built into TikTok or standard video download tools.
Method 1 — Download from TikTok's Sound Library (Best Option)
If the background music is from TikTok's licensed sound library (a song name and artist appear at the bottom of the video), this is your cleanest path:
- Open the TikTok video → tap the song name / rotating disc icon at the bottom
- TikTok opens the Sound Library page for that track
- Copy the URL (format:
tiktok.com/music/song-name-XXXXXX) - Go to klypio.com/tiktok-downloader → paste the Sound URL → select Download Audio (MP3)
This gives you the original backing track as TikTok stores it in their library — no creator speech, clean audio. This is the same file TikTok uses as the background in any video using that sound.
Method 2 — Find the Original Track on Streaming Platforms
Many viral TikTok sounds are clips from full songs on Spotify, YouTube Music, or SoundCloud. Instead of working backwards from TikTok:
- Note the song name shown in the TikTok (usually "Song Name — Artist Name" at the bottom)
- Search that on Spotify, YouTube, or SoundCloud
- Download the full-quality original from the source
If it's on SoundCloud, use klypio.com/soundcloud-downloader to download the MP3 directly.
Method 3 — AI Vocal Removal (When No Original Exists)
If the audio is an original TikTok creation — a creator's custom background, a unique mix, or something not on any streaming platform — you'll need AI to separate the tracks:
- Download the TikTok video using klypio.com/tiktok-downloader (select MP4)
- Upload the file to an AI stem-separation tool like Lalal.ai or Moises.ai
- The AI splits the audio into two tracks: Vocals and Instrumental
- Download the Instrumental track — this is the background without speech
Quality depends on the source. If the voice and music are heavily layered, AI may leave minor artifacts. For most standard TikTok videos the result is clean enough for background use.
