You have 500 clips in your library. When you need to find the "March product launch" clip, you scroll through hundreds of files named VID_20260301_114523.mp4. 20 minutes to find one clip.
Smart playlists combined with auto-tagging solve this. Clips get categorized automatically as they're downloaded — you search by tag, not filename.
What is a smart playlist?
Unlike regular playlists where you drag and drop each clip manually, smart playlists update automatically based on criteria you define.
Example: A "TikTok May" playlist automatically includes every clip tagged "tiktok" downloaded in May. When you download more TikTok clips, the playlist updates itself — no action needed.
How to set up effective auto-tagging
Step 1 — Tag at download time, not after
Auto-tagging works best when applied immediately at download, not retroactively. Klypio saves clips to your library with full metadata at download time — source platform, date, and format are all recorded automatically.
Use Klypio YouTube Downloader or TikTok Downloader — downloaded clips are saved to your library with automatic platform tags.
Step 2 — Build a consistent tag system
Use 3–4 tag categories maximum to avoid tag chaos:
- Platform: youtube, tiktok, facebook, instagram
- Topic: product, review, tutorial, lifestyle
- Status: used, needs-edit, archive
- Month: 2026-05, 2026-04
Step 3 — Create smart playlists from tag criteria
Once your tag system is in place, create playlists that filter automatically. Practical examples:
- Playlist "Needs editing" = tag: needs-edit
- Playlist "TikTok this month" = tag: tiktok + current month
- Playlist "Product reviews" = tag: review + product
