Someone sent you a video on WhatsApp and you want to save it to your computer — not just keep it on your phone. Or you want to save a WhatsApp Status video before it disappears in 24 hours. Here are the most practical methods for Windows and Mac.
Method 1 — WhatsApp Desktop App (Easiest)
If you use the WhatsApp Desktop app (Windows/Mac), most chat videos are downloadable directly:
- Open WhatsApp Desktop → go to the conversation with the video
- Hover over the video → click the download icon (downward arrow)
- The video saves to your default Downloads folder
If no download button appears, right-click the video and select "Save video".
Method 2 — WhatsApp Web in Browser
On WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com):
- Open the video in chat → click the ⋮ (three dots) next to the video
- Select Download
- The video downloads to your Downloads folder
If no download option appears: right-click the video → "Save video as" to save it.
Method 3 — Saving Someone's WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp Status (Stories) has no built-in save button. To save a Status video on desktop:
- Open WhatsApp Web → go to the person's Status
- Right-click the video → Inspect (open DevTools)
- In the Network tab, filter by "media" or "video" → copy the video URL → open it and download
This requires some DevTools familiarity. For an easier approach, use Klypio.
Method 4 — Klypio for Publicly Shared Content
Klypio supports downloading from Facebook, Instagram, and many other platforms where WhatsApp content is often reshared. If the original video came from a public platform, find the source and use Klypio to get a higher-quality version.
For videos received privately in WhatsApp chat, the desktop methods above are the most appropriate.
