How to Use AI to Detect Cultural Sensitivity in Creator Scripts

Guide to using AI for cultural sensitivity detection in video scripts — practical workflow, sample prompts, and why native reviewers are still essential.

You are creating content for a multicultural audience or expanding into a new market — and you are concerned your script might unintentionally contain something culturally inappropriate. AI can help with an initial scan — but there are important limitations to understand.

Critical warning: AI has cultural bias. Most AI models are trained primarily on English-language data and Western cultural contexts. AI may miss cultural sensitivity issues specific to Vietnamese, Southeast Asian, or other markets you are targeting. A native reviewer check before publishing is non-negotiable.

What AI can do in a cultural sensitivity check

  • Flag obvious stereotypes or potentially controversial language at a surface level
  • Identify phrases that could be misunderstood in a different cultural context
  • Suggest more neutral alternative phrasings
  • Remind you of sensitive topics in specific markets (religion, politics, customs)

What AI cannot do

  • Understand deep cultural nuances (local humor, regional idioms, historical context)
  • Detect issues specific to cultures underrepresented in its training data
  • Guarantee tone fits your specific audience
  • Replace the lived experience of someone from that culture

Practical workflow

Step 1 — AI initial scan

Paste your script into ChatGPT or Claude with a prompt like:

"Review the following script for cultural sensitivity issues, stereotypes, or phrasing that could be controversial for an audience in [target market, e.g., Vietnam, Southeast Asia, US]. List sections that need attention and explain why. [paste script]"

Step 2 — Review AI flagged items

  • Evaluate each flagged item — is it actually an issue?
  • Edit clearly problematic points
  • Note items that need native reviewer assessment

Step 3 — Native reviewer final check (required)

This step cannot be skipped. A native reviewer will:

  • Catch humor, idioms, or cultural references AI missed
  • Assess whether the tone fits the local audience
  • Confirm no subtle issues around local history, religion, or customs

Example prompt for Vietnamese creators making global content

"I'm a Vietnamese creator making English content for a global audience. Please review this script for cultural sensitivity issues, stereotypes, or phrases that might be misunderstood by non-Vietnamese viewers. Flag anything that references Vietnamese culture in a way that could seem stereotypical or reductive. [paste script]"
