How to Use AI to Smart-Blur Logos and Watermarks in Videos

Use AI smart-blur to automatically detect and blur logos or watermarks in video — tools, workflow, and ethical guidelines. Respect ownership — never remove someone else's logo.

Recording product footage and accidentally capturing a competitor's logo? Or need to remove old company branding from footage you own? AI smart-blur can automatically detect and blur these — far faster than frame-by-frame manual work.

Ethical principle — read this first: Respect ownership — do not use smart-blur to remove logos or watermarks from someone else's content without permission. Removing another creator's watermark from their content is a copyright violation. This guide applies to your own footage, or footage you have been legally licensed to use.

When is AI logo blur appropriate?

Legitimate use cases:

  • Hiding competitor brand logos in your own product footage
  • Blurring location signage to protect privacy
  • Removing a former company's logo from video you own the rights to
  • Hiding unrelated logos in your own B-roll

Not appropriate:

  • Removing watermarks from another creator's content
  • Removing branding from video you do not own
  • Any purpose that violates platform terms of service

AI smart-blur tools for video

1. Runway ML (Gen-3)

Runway has video inpainting — you draw a mask over the logo, and AI fills it in with content that matches the surrounding background. Best for static or slow-moving logos.

2. Adobe Premiere Pro + After Effects (Auto-track)

After Effects has motion tracking + auto-blur — track a moving logo across frames and apply blur that follows it. More precise but requires basic After Effects knowledge.

3. DaVinci Resolve (Neural Engine blur)

DaVinci Resolve's Neural Engine can track objects automatically — detect a logo and apply blur that follows its motion. DaVinci offers a free version with full core features.

4. Online blur tools

Tools like Kapwing and Clideo support blurring specific regions in a video — good for short clips, no software installation needed.

AI logo blur workflow

  1. Identify where and when the logo appears in the video
  2. Choose the right tool (static logo → Kapwing; moving logo → After Effects or DaVinci)
  3. Draw a mask or select the region to blur
  4. Apply AI tracking if the logo moves
  5. Export and review the result
