Placing ads or breaks in the right position in your video significantly impacts viewer experience and revenue. Cut too early or mid-sentence and viewers get frustrated. AI can analyse your script and suggest natural break points — but this is just a draft. You still need to listen-test with real audio before finalising any ad slot position.
How does AI suggest ad slot breaks?
AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) can analyse your script and propose break positions based on:
- Natural end-points of a thought — after completing one main point, before moving to the next
- Breathing points in the narrative — transition sections between two parts
- Reasonable timing intervals — avoiding breaks that are too frequent or too sparse
Sample prompt to use with AI
"Here is the script for my [X-minute] video: [Paste script here] Please suggest 2–3 natural break/ad slot positions in this script. Briefly explain why each position works well."
Why you must listen-test after getting AI suggestions
AI reads text only — it does not hear audio. In practice:
- The actual vocal delivery may differ from the written text — natural pauses in speech do not always match sentence breaks on the page
- Background music or sound effects can change how a break position feels
- The real rhythm of a video often differs from the rhythm of a script read on paper
Correct workflow: AI suggests positions → Listen to real audio at those positions → Adjust based on how it actually sounds → Make the final decision.
Practical rules for ad slots
- Pre-roll (start of video): maximum 15–30 seconds, before the main content begins
- Mid-roll: best for videos over 8 minutes — typically one break every 8–10 minutes
- Post-roll (end of video): fewer viewers reach this point; lower effectiveness than mid-roll
- Never cut mid-sentence or mid-thought — always complete a unit of meaning before the break
Reminder: AI output is a draft — you still need to listen-test with real audio. AI suggestions are a starting point, not the final decision.
