Bilibili is the world's largest Chinese-language video platform — anime, dramas, vlogs, and language learning content that simply isn't available elsewhere. If you're learning Mandarin or want to watch Chinese content with subtitles, Bilibili is essential. Watching everything online burns data and isn't practical on the go. Here's how to download for offline viewing.
How subtitles work on Bilibili
Bilibili has two subtitle types:
- Official subtitles: Uploaded by fansubbers or the channel owner — usually in SRT or ASS format (ASS supports styled text with colours and positioning)
- Auto-generated CC: Bilibili's speech-to-text — noticeably better quality than YouTube's auto-captions for Mandarin content
When downloading, the subtitle is a separate file from the video. You need both, then merge them in a video player.
Download the Bilibili video with Klypio
- Open the Bilibili video you want → copy the URL (format:
bilibili.com/video/BV...) - Go to klypio.com/bilibili-video-downloader → paste the link
- Select video quality → download the MP4 file
Klypio handles most public Bilibili videos. Geo-restricted content (China-only) or videos requiring a Bilibili premium account will return an access error.
Download the subtitle file separately
To get the SRT subtitle file from Bilibili:
- Use @KlypioBot — send the video link and the bot will ask whether you want the video or subtitle file
- Or use a browser extension specifically for Bilibili subtitle extraction (search "Bilibili subtitle downloader" on the Chrome Web Store)
Merge subtitles into the video for offline playback
Once you have the MP4 and SRT/ASS files:
- VLC: Open video → drag and drop the subtitle file onto the VLC window → subtitles appear automatically
- PotPlayer: Place the video and subtitle file in the same folder with the same filename → PotPlayer auto-detects them
