A shop owner messaged me: "I accidentally deleted my old Instagram account — lost 80 Reels I'd made over two years." It happens more than you'd think, and once the account is gone, Instagram won't recover the content.
Whether you're rebranding, switching accounts, or just want a backup before something goes wrong — here's how to download your Reels before they disappear.
When You Need a Reel Backup
- Rebranding your shop under a new handle
- Closing or deleting an old account
- Routine archiving — Instagram occasionally removes content by mistake
- Repurposing old clips for new campaigns on other platforms
- Keeping a local copy of your best-performing ads
How to Download Reels — Free
Step 1 — Get the Reel link
Open Instagram in a desktop browser (instagram.com). Go to your shop page → click the Reels tab. Open each Reel → click the three-dot menu … → Copy Link.
Step 2 — Download via Klypio
- Open klypio.com/tools/instagram-downloader
- Paste the Reel link
- Click download — the MP4 saves in seconds
Klypio downloads public Reels without login. Free, no usage limits.
How to Organize the Files
Name files by date or product so you can find them later:
reel-winter-collection-jan26-2026.mp4reel-tet-sale-jan28-2026.mp4
Folder structure: Instagram-Backup / 2026 / January. Upload to Google Drive or an external drive for an off-device copy.
One Limitation to Know
Klypio downloads public Reels. Private Reels or account-restricted content can't be pulled from outside the platform.
For private Reels you own: Go to Instagram → Settings → Account → Download Your Data — Instagram will email you a full data export including private content.
