Instagram stories last exactly 24 hours. Post something in the morning, forget about it, and by the next day it's gone — including event photos, important announcements, or footage you put effort into.
Three methods to keep stories before they disappear:
Method 1 — Save your own story immediately when posting
The most reliable option, no external tools needed:
- While creating a story → before posting, tap the Save icon (downward arrow) in the top-left corner
- After posting → open your story → tap the three dots (⋯) → select Save photo/video
- Or go to your Archive in your profile → Story Archive → select any story → Save
Tip: Enable auto-save in Settings → Account → Story Controls → Save to Camera Roll. Toggle it once and every future story saves automatically.
Method 2 — Save someone else's story (public accounts only)
Instagram has no native download button for other people's stories. You need an external tool.
- Open the person's Instagram profile in a desktop browser — copy the profile URL (format:
instagram.com/username) - Go to klypio.com/instagram-video-downloader → paste the link → click download
- Klypio lists the currently active stories — select the one you want to save
Works only with public accounts. Stories from private accounts require you to follow them and be accepted — Klypio cannot access private stories from strangers.
Method 3 — Use @KlypioBot on Telegram
- Open @KlypioBot on Telegram
- Send the public Instagram profile link into the chat
- The bot returns the currently active stories — tap to save to your phone
Fastest option when you're already on your phone and don't want to open a browser.
Story already expired — is there any way to recover it?
No external tool can recover an expired story. But if it was your own story, Instagram keeps it in your Story Archive — go to Profile → Menu (☰) → Archive to view and download past stories.
