You just agreed to collaborate with another creator — who handles filming, who edits, how is revenue split, and what happens if one party wants to exit? Without a written agreement, these questions easily become disputes later on.
Important: This template is a reference document only and does not replace professional legal advice. For high-value or complex agreements, consult a lawyer or legal professional before signing.
Why creators need written collaboration agreements
- Prevents misunderstandings about roles and responsibilities
- Protects content ownership (who can use the videos after the collaboration ends?)
- Clarifies how revenue, sponsorships, and affiliate income are split
- Provides a basis for resolving disputes if they arise
Core clauses to include
1. Party information
- Full name, channel/account, contact info for each creator
- Collaboration start date
2. Scope of collaboration
- Type of content (video, podcast, written posts, livestreams)
- Publishing platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.)
- Content volume or frequency (if defined)
- Duration (fixed term or open-ended until either party opts out)
3. Roles and responsibilities
- Who handles production (filming, editing, thumbnail design)
- Who manages publishing and scheduling
- Who manages brand/sponsor outreach (if applicable)
4. Revenue split
- Platform revenue split (YouTube AdSense, TikTok Creator Fund)
- How sponsorship fees are handled
- Affiliate revenue split (shared affiliate links)
- Production costs (studio, equipment, software) — who bears them, or are they deducted before splitting profit?
5. Content ownership
- Which channel(s) content is published on
- Who may reuse content after the collaboration ends
- Whether either party may republish without the other's consent
6. Termination
- Notice period for exit (e.g., 30 days)
- Handling content in production at time of exit
- Handling published content (leave up or remove?)
- Pending revenue distribution after termination
7. Confidentiality and restrictions
- No disclosure of collaboration internals to third parties
- Non-compete clause for directly competing content during the collaboration term (if agreed)
