Twitch automatically deletes VODs after 60 days (14 days for standard accounts). If you're a streamer wanting to preserve your own sub-only stream recordings, or a subscriber wanting to save VODs you've paid to access — this is the practical guide.
Important disclaimer: This guide is only for VODs from your own channel or from channels you actively subscribe to. Do NOT attempt to bypass paywalls or access sub-only content from channels you haven't subscribed to — that violates Twitch's Terms of Service and the creator's rights.
Why Do Twitch VODs Disappear?
Twitch has time-limited VOD storage policies:
- Standard accounts: VODs kept for 14 days
- Twitch Partner / Affiliate: VODs kept for 60 days
- Sub-only VODs: Only visible to subscribers during the retention window
After this window, VODs are permanently deleted — unless you proactively download and store them yourself.
If You're a Streamer — Saving Your Own VODs
As a channel owner, you have full rights to download your own VODs:
- Go to Twitch Creator Dashboard → Content → Video Producer
- Find the VOD you want → click the three-dot menu → Download
- Twitch allows direct download of your own VODs from the dashboard
This is the simplest approach and requires no third-party tools. Save to Google Drive or your local video library.

If You're a Subscriber — Saving VODs You've Paid For
If you've subscribed to a channel and want to save VODs you have the right to watch:
- Open the VOD on Twitch (must be logged in with an active subscription)
- Copy the VOD URL
- Paste into klypio.com/twitch-vod-downloader
- Klypio downloads the video file to your device
Klypio uses your authenticated session to verify access rights — it can only download VODs you genuinely have permission to view. If you're not subscribed, Klypio cannot bypass the paywall — and shouldn't.
Save Highlights Instead of Full VODs
Full 4–8 hour VODs are large files. Consider:
- Creating Clips on Twitch from key moments (up to 60 seconds)
- Using klypio.com/twitch-clip-downloader to download clips locally
- Clips are publicly shareable — no subscription required to view
Want to save via Telegram? Send the VOD link to @KlypioBot — the bot processes and delivers the file directly in chat.
