You paid real money for an NFT video — a digital art clip, a sports highlight, or a collectible video. But an NFT on the blockchain is just a "certificate of ownership." The actual video file lives on a server somewhere — usually IPFS, Arweave, or the marketplace's own servers. If they go down, your file goes with them.
Local storage is the real protection for assets you have purchased and own.
The Risk of NFT Videos Without a Backup
- Marketplace shutdown: The platform closes — metadata links break, files disappear
- IPFS pin expiry: Not all NFTs are permanently pinned on IPFS
- URL structure changes: Marketplace changes its URL structure — links in token metadata break
- Account lockout: Your account gets locked for any reason — you lose access to the original file
How to Save Your Purchased NFT Video Files
Step 1 — Find the Original File Link
Go to your NFT's page on the marketplace (OpenSea, Rarible, etc.) and look at the metadata or "Properties" section. Find the animation_url or image field — this points directly to the original video file. It typically starts with ipfs:// or https://.
Step 2 — Convert IPFS Links If Needed
If the link is in the format ipfs://Qm..., use a public gateway: replace it with https://ipfs.io/ipfs/Qm... or https://cloudflare-ipfs.com/ipfs/Qm.... Then paste that URL into klypio.com/app to download it.
Step 3 — Download and Save Properly
Once you have an HTTP link, use Klypio Downloader or directly via klypio.com/app to save the file. Store it as: NFT_[collection-name]_[token-id]_[purchase-date].mp4.
Step 4 — Back Up to Multiple Locations
- External hard drive (cold storage)
- Private cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox — private folder)
- Klypio library at klypio.com/app as a cloud intermediate layer

This guide applies to NFT videos you have purchased and own the token for. Buying an NFT does not automatically grant redistribution rights — check the specific NFT's license before reusing the content. Read more: Copyright guide for creators.
