Creator teams often have members working different hours — someone shoots in the early morning, someone edits in the evening, a freelance reviewer works weekends. Scheduling live meetings is hard and eats time. Async standup videos solve this.
What is an async standup video?
Instead of a daily 15–30 minute meeting, each team member records a short 1–3 minute clip every day (or every 2–3 days) sharing three things: what they did, what they will do next, and whether they need any help. Clips are shared to Slack, Telegram group, or Notion — members watch when convenient.
Content template for each async standup clip
3-part structure (under 2 minutes)
- Done [yesterday/last period]: Brief summary — e.g. "Finished editing episode 12, currently exporting"
- Next [today/upcoming period]: Clear priority — e.g. "Record intro for episode 13, target: done before 3pm"
- Blockers or help needed: If none, say "No blockers" — do not skip this item
Sample script template
"Hey team, [Name] here — [day/date]. Yesterday I [what was done]. Today I will focus on [what will be done]. [I have / I don't have] any blockers — [describe if applicable]. See you in the next clip!"
Tools for recording and sharing async standups
- Loom: Screen + webcam recording, share link — most convenient for remote workflows
- Telegram video note: Record a round video directly in the app, no separate tool needed
- Google Drive + Sheets: Upload clips, link into a shared standup tracking spreadsheet
- Notion: Create a standup database, each day is a row, embed Loom clips
Rules to make async standups work
- Set a clear deadline: e.g. "Post standup before 9am on each working day"
- No production quality needed: Webcam or phone direct recording, no editing required
- Reply with text: Watch each other's clips and comment in text — no need to reply with video
- Keep for reference: Standup videos are a project history log — don't delete them
